This project began with the prompt: “How can we make everyday mundane tasks more enjoyable and engaging?” We wanted something more mysterious than a simple to-do app. Instead of gamifying tasks with points or badges, we were inspired by:
alternate universes
branching timelines
cryptic messages
the idea that small actions create big ripples
The concept became: What if every task you complete or skip sends a message from an alternate version of yourself—one who feels the impact of your choices in their world?
A task isn’t just checked off. It changes reality.
That mysterious, atmospheric idea shaped everything from the design to the mechanics.
What We Learned
Throughout the project, we learned:
- How storytelling transforms productivity tools
Task trackers normally feel like lists. But when we added narrative, characters, and world-building, we learned how:
motivation increases
users become curious
tasks feel less like chores
progression feels meaningful
