Inspiration
There are over 500,000 homeless people in the United States alone, and that number just keeps growing. There are more homeless women than men, at 50,000. These women have limited to no access to hygiene products and have no place to shower. However, most Americans are unaware of these facts. We intend to change that.
What it does
Our website features a Google maps function that allows the user to view their nearby donation locations. After the user chooses a location, they can fill out the Google form that asks them what products and how many products they are donating.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and JS. We coded our website in repl.it so that we were able to preview the website conveniently.
Challenges we ran into
We had trouble with aligning the buttons on the home page. We also had trouble with implementing the Google Maps section of our website, but we were able to overcome this obstacle in the end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of our Google Maps API. It was very challenging for us to code this, and it is a very advanced implementation in our website.
What we learned
We learned a lot about HTML, CSS, and JS. Furthermore, we learned about teamwork because we were able to successfully divide up the work and we therefore were able to complete our website on time.
What's next for Let's Talk: Period
Rather than just listing out locations of homeless shelters, we hope to be able to allow the user to choose the homeless shelter of their choice based on their location.
