Inspiration
I was thinking about an application I could build to help people improve their mental health. My first thought was a mood tracker app, but that's been done before. Then I was thinking of a journaling app, but again, not super original. I realized that both of these ideas help individuals process their emotions by themselves, which is important, but what I think can be even more helpful is working through what's bothering you with other people.
What it does
Let's Talk About it connects you with another person that is struggling with the same issues as you so you can talk about it, and release some of the negative feelings that come with these issues in your life.
How we built it
I built the wireframe of this app using Figma. I also built a super basic flask server that serves empty static files that I will build on over the course of the next few months.
Challenges we ran into
I am not really a front-end person, so I usually opt to let someone else work on the UI. However this time, I was working by myself (which was a challenge in and of itself) and knew my idea was not something I could reasonably finish in a day. So, I decided to spend my time working on the UI because I felt it would convey my idea the best. However, having little experience with design meant I spent a lot of time trying to think of layouts and learning how to use Figma.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of myself for tackling a portion of the project that I normally wouldn't touch. But more than that, I am really proud of my idea. I think this could help a lot of people.
What we learned
I learned how to harness the group feature in Figma. I also learned how to add effects such as shadows.
What's next for Let's Talk About It
I want to of course actually build the app, that's always a good start. Other than that, some features I was thinking about include an in-app mood tracker/journal and since there might not be someone online with an issue in common when you log on, I want to send users a notification when someone is online. Looking ahead, I want to eventually turn this into a mobile app rather than a web application.
