Inspiration Our inspiration for Career Drive was to give professionals a clear, structured path to grow in their careers without the overwhelm of figuring out where to start. We noticed that most people know they need new skills but have no actionable plan to get there, so we wanted to change that. What it does Career Drive analyzes a professional's current skills and identifies the gaps between where they are and where they want to be. It then generates a personalized 90-day roadmap with a project trajectory and tracks their readiness for new skills over time, giving users a concrete, step-by-step plan to level up in their career. How we built it We built Career Drive using Next.js for both the frontend and backend, styled with Tailwind CSS and ShadCN components for a clean, professional UI. The AI features are powered by the Gemini API, which handles skill gap analysis and roadmap generation. We deployed the app on Vercel. Challenges we ran into We ran into significant challenges with time constraints. Balancing the complexity of the AI-generated roadmap logic with building a polished, functional frontend in a limited window pushed us to prioritize fast and efficiently as a team. Accomplishments that we're proud of We are proud that we shipped a fully working product within the hackathon timeframe. Seeing the AI accurately identify skill gaps and generate a realistic 90-day plan felt like a genuine validation of the idea. What we learned We learned how to rapidly integrate an AI API into a full-stack application and how to make smart scoping decisions under pressure. We also gained a much stronger understanding of how to translate a complex user problem into a clean, usable product. What's next for CareerDrive We want to add progress tracking so users can check off milestones along their 90-day roadmap, integrate job market data to make skill recommendations more targeted, and eventually build out a community layer where professionals can share their growth journeys.
