Inspiration
Second Language Learners who are students often struggle with fitting in and tend to be more shy and reserved. They also have higher rates of loneliness and depression. The catch-22 is they find it hard to practice because they struggle with language. Lets Lang Out gives them a friend and tutor to hang out with who teaches them.
What it does
It lets users select from one of the available languages. They can then talk with the tutor and get grammar notes while speaking to steadily improve. The AI tracks the user's level and adjusts it responses so the language is not very hard for a beginner or too easy for an advanced user.
How we built it
I used replit ai to help me. I also connected 11 labs for the voice ai. The notes were a result of open ai. Replit ai helped me alot in constructing this app. HTML, CSS, Tailwind and vite were all technologies that were used but mostly I didnt have to interact with them because replit handled it all.
Challenges we ran into
I had a hard time getting the notes to work. It was also hard to connect it to eleven labs since it was my first time using it. I also have never made a full project before today so I ran into alot of confusing things but ai helped me carry out my vision.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am happy my chatbot can talk in multiple languages, asses users level to become a good practice partner, and give good grammar tips.
What we learned
I learned how to use replit, 11 labs, and how ai's that use voices work. It was my first time building a whole project so I learned and struggled with lots of things.
What's next for Let's Lang Out
I want the AI to be able to teach structured curriculums, be able to handle conversation more smoothly, and most of all give the ui more soul so it does not feel as robotic.
