Inspiration
The intro for Track 3 inspired us to look deeper into how vital small businesses are and how, for many people, they are often a "third space." We aim to leverage a powerful, user-friendly platform to spotlight small local businesses and bring them to the general public's attention.
What it does
The application takes user input for an address and spotlights the highest-rated small businesses in the general vicinity of the address input.
How we built it
We implemented Google API places and had that communicate with google API Maps in order to display local businesses around the user-inputted address.
Challenges we ran into
Our main challenge was integrating the Google Maps API into Angular, so we decided the best course of action would be to integrate it into Vue instead.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The accomplishment we're most proud of is the project concept itself. We believe that leveraging a powerful platform to highlight local, underrepresented businesses is very innovative and allows communities to better support the local businesses in their area that are often a pillar of the community.
What we learned
We learned that sometimes, when faced with a challenge, it's okay to scrap the idea and start over if that is the most promising route, even if it seems daunting.
What's next for Let's Get Local
Next, we plan on fully integrating the Google Maps API in VUE.
