Background : People, the world over, are suffering from stress and obesity. Obesity has been a disturbing problem in the developed economies especially like India and still morbid obesity has not yet become a public health priority. Also, the statistics say that India suffers from an unwanted epidemic of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The same is true for stress; stress is considered as the most unwelcome part of our lives. It is hard for anyone to imagine that they don't undergo stress in their daily lives. Many of life's demands can cause stress, particularly work, relationships and money problems. And, stress can affect everything one does. Stress can affect how one feels, how one thinks, how one behaves. Sleeping problems, sweating, loss of appetite and difficulty concentrating are all common signs of stress.
Description : Let’s Exercise is a context-aware mobile application, which motivates people to take up physical activity as part of their daily routines thereby efficiently reducing stress and obesity. With users being constantly on the mobile, the application determines the contextual environment of the user and based on that sends him positive and motivating messages/alerts throughout the day. At a predefined time interval, the mobile app determines the user's current location (home/office/ other), the current weather type (favorable and non-favorable), and based on this the user receives the alerts on his smartphone.
The user can register with ‘Let’s Exercise’ directly or through Google or Facebook ID as a one-time login activity. Once the user gets registered with the app he/she would need to complete one-time configuration setting. This includes identifying the user’s office and home location, the frequency of receiving alerts in a day, setting the favorable temperature range. ‘Let’s Exercise’ provides a complete list of indoor exercises, healthy food items, nearest park/gym for carrying out the physical activity. The activity such as running, cycling etc. are also tracked and recorded in the application.
The objective of designing a mobile app for motivating to do physical activity is to convey the message, “Let’s Exercise!’
