Inspiration

We were interested in conversational commerce, so we asked ourselves, where do businesses / merchants sell online today. Two popular platforms came to mind - Shopify and Instagram. On Instagram, businesses post products they want to sell and often with the price of the product and an image showing the product. Customers send them a DM and they exchange bank and delivery information. Shopify has a similar journey as well, although more defined as it is purely a selling platform unlike Instagram.

What it does

We decided to give businesses an option to connect their accounts on either platforms (Shopify and Instagram) to their Facebook page which creates a Messenger bot automatically populated with their products on both platforms. They do this by simply chatting with the Leon Bot on Messenger and using OAUTH to link their accounts on these platforms to their Facebook page. Businesses can have their commerce bot running on Messenger in 2 minutes or less.

How I built it

We connected to three APIs. Facebook Login, Instagram Basic Display API and Shopify's OAUTH API. We also connected to the Messenger Platform to build our bot and automatically create bots for businesses.

Connecting and understanding how the different third party APIs worked.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Setting up a project in such a short time. Would be happy to see how it helps businesses.

What's next for Leon Bot

We plan to start on-boarding businesses to Leon. Really doing more testing to see everything works. Provide better product discovery for customers. Customers should be able to search products across all the shops Leon has helped setup. This would provide more customers and product discovery on the other hand for businesses.

We also plan to provide better customer service for businesses to their customers by implementing the handover protocol and letting businesses provide support to their customers. Finally, we would provide a dashboard with analytics for business to manage, track orders and provide customer support.
