Lens AI

Inspiration

Artificial intelligence is transforming the way people learn, communicate, and make decisions online. At the same time, misinformation, scams, manipulated media, privacy risks, and harmful digital behaviors are becoming increasingly difficult to recognize. Existing digital safety resources are often generic, fragmented, and designed with a one-size-fits-all approach.

Lens AI was inspired by a simple question:

What if every person had an intelligent guide that understood who they were before helping them navigate the digital world?

Rather than providing identical content to everyone, Lens AI personalizes digital citizenship education according to each user’s age, role, interests, experience level, and learning needs. The goal is to make AI-powered digital safety more engaging, accessible, and relevant for students, educators, parents, professionals, and lifelong learners.

What it does:

Lens AI is an AI-powered digital citizenship platform designed to educate, protect, and empower users through personalized experiences.

The platform includes:

Personalized onboarding that adapts the platform to each user’s profile.

AI Investigator, an intelligent assistant that helps users evaluate online content, suspicious messages, websites, and digital claims.

Personalized learning pathways with educational resources tailored to individual interests and experience.

The use of interactive assessments and quizzes to identify knowledge gaps and suggest the following learning steps.

Advancement is followed by achievements, with personalized recommendations and learning analytics provided.

Workshops and appointments led by experts to connect users with reliable professionals who can provide more in-depth learning and guidance.

An interface that is first and foremost designed to be modern and which makes digital citizenship intuitive and engaging.

These features together result in a personalized ecosystem which promotes critical thinking, responsible use of technology, and a continuous improvement of digital literacy.

How we built it

The project was entirely designed with a strong emphasis on user experience, AI-assisted personalization, and a scalable architecture.

The design process involved:

researching current digital citizenship challenges, defining personalized user journeys, designing a complete mobile application interface, creating interactive user flows, prototyping AI interactions, building an interactive application prototype, producing a realistic product demonstration, and improving the experience by means of several design iterations.

Special attention was given to accessibility, intuitive navigation, visual consistency, and making complex AI concepts understandable to users from diverse backgrounds.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was balancing powerful AI functionality with a simple user experience.

Digital safety involves many different topics, like misinformation, cybersecurity, privacy, responsible AI use, and digital well-being, without overwhelming users. Designing an experience that feels intelligent while remaining approachable required continuous iteration.

A further difficulty consisted in achieving genuine personalization that actually tailored the platform to various audiences rather than merely altering the visual aspects. It became one of the project's main design objectives to make sure that the recommendations, the educational routes, and the interactions with the AI remained relevant for different types of users.

What we learned

The fact that Lens AI was developed shows that effective AI products are not just a matter of having sophisticated models; they are about building trust.

We learned that personalization can significantly improve engagement, that educational AI should explain its reasoning clearly, and that thoughtful design is essential for helping users build confidence in navigating digital environments.

Most important of all, we have discovered that digital citizenship involves not just one lesson but rather a continuous journey, and that AI can serve as a powerful partner in helping to make this journey in a responsible manner.

What’s next for Lens AI

The objective is to turn Lens AI into a digital citizenship platform that is accessible everywhere and which can offer assistance to millions of users.

Future development includes deploying optimized on-device AI models for faster and more private experiences, multilingual support, expanded misinformation detection capabilities, personalized AI coaching, educator dashboards, institutional deployments for schools and universities, community safety features, and continuous learning prompted by responsible AI.

In the long term we want digital citizenship to be just as individualised, interesting and easy to access as modern AI is.
