Inspiration
On the Thanksgiving of November 2014, my family's oven broke and we were unable to roast our turkey. Instead, we had the pleasure of eating salad and noodles for our Thanksgiving dinner. I wondered if we could use a neighbor's oven, but it was considered too rude. So, I wanted to create a solution where people could lend and rent items that they needed at convenience.
What it does
Our application lets people lend items that they don't need, and other people can rent them for a previously arranged fee.
How we built it
We created a web application that let people create item listings in a marketplace, and implemented ways for lenders to be safely contacted by renters. HTML5 was used for the front end, and django was used to create servers so people could make accounts and login to the web app.
What we learned
Considering that none of us had used HTML or django before, it was impressive that we were able to build a functional application using the 2 languages.
What's next for LendChit
We're planning to install a IM function so renters and lenders can directly contact each other within the web app, without having to resort to outside sources that lessen privacy.
