We live in a world where smartphones are everywhere, but high-end AI features are usually locked to expensive devices or require constant internet access. I wanted to break that barrier. At just 14, I asked myself: why can’t advanced AI run offline, on even budget phones? That question sparked LemonAI.

What it does

LemonAI is a lightweight, offline-first AI system that enhances photos and videos in real time.

Photo AI (~10MB): Ultra-efficient enhancement for offline photo quality improvement.
Video AI (~6.7MB): Fast offline video color grading — e.g., 58s of video processed in just 2–5 seconds on a 2019 budget device.
Modes: Uplift Colours, Dark, Cinematic, Blank & Write (with offline-first priority).

All of this runs on devices under ₹12k (~$150), without cloud support. The goal is simple: AI for everyone, not just flagship users.

How we built it

Core engine built with FFmpeg for efficient video handling.
Packaged in a lightweight Android WebView APK for speed + compatibility.
Optimized for offline-first workflows, minimizing latency.
Custom compression & memory management to keep the footprint under 10MB.

Challenges we ran into

Running complex AI offline on limited RAM was the hardest — constant tradeoff between quality vs. size.
Optimizing video preview latency (getting from ~10s to ~2s) required deep experimentation.
Being a 14-year-old founder, access to advanced hardware/testing resources was limited, but that forced extreme creativity.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

Built a globally unique offline-first AI that runs on phones many companies ignore.
Achieved sub-10MB package size — rare for video/photo AI.
Pitched to global smartphone brands (like Realme HQ) with interest and recognition.

What we learned

That constraints fuel innovation — limited resources made the project leaner and more efficient.
The importance of brand positioning (LemonAI’s “Power & Performance” identity was born from this).
Communication and persistence matter as much as the code itself.

What’s next for LemonAI

Expand into new AI modules (camera guide AI, antivirus AI, performance optimizer).
Integrate a Cinematic AI mode that syncs offline & cloud for maximum power.
Build an interlinked 10-AI ecosystem under the LemonAI brand.
Seek collaborations with smartphone OEMs to embed LemonAI directly into devices.
