Legal Clarity

We were inspired by how overwhelming and inaccessible legal documents can feel to the average person. Important contracts, notices, and agreements are often filled with complex terminology, leaving people uncertain about their rights, responsibilities, and next steps. We wanted to use AI to bridge this gap and make legal information more understandable and empowering for everyone.

Legal documents are often intimidating and difficult to understand. Our AI powered assistant transforms complex legal language into clear explanations, highlights critical actions and deadlines, and provides personalized guidance helping people protect their rights and make informed decisions with confidence.

We began by researching the challenges people face when trying to understand legal documents and identifying the information they need most urgently. We then designed the user experience in Figma, focusing on simplicity, accessibility, and reducing anxiety around legal processes. Our proposed solution combines OCR technology to extract text from uploaded documents with Generative AI to summarize content, identify key actions and deadlines, assess urgency, and answer user questions in plain language.

One of our biggest challenges was balancing simplicity with accuracy. Legal documents contain complex language and detailed information, so designing an experience that presents essential details in a way that is both understandable and trustworthy required multiple iterations. We also had to carefully consider how AI recommendations should guide users without replacing professional legal advice.

We are especially proud of designing a solution that goes beyond summarization by focusing on user confidence and decision making. Through iterative design and feature exploration, we created an experience that helps users understand what a document means, what actions they need to take, and how urgent the situation is all in an approachable and accessible format.

Throughout this project, we learned that solving real world problems requires more than just technology it requires understanding the people affected by them. We discovered the importance of balancing simplicity with accuracy, designing AI experiences responsibly, and creating solutions that empower users rather than overwhelm them. We also gained valuable experience in collaboration, usercentered design, and translating complex challenges into accessible experiences.

In the future, we envision Legal Clarity becoming a trusted legal companion that helps individuals navigate important documents with confidence. We plan to expand its capabilities through real-time document analysis, multilingual accessibility, personalized recommendations, and partnerships with legal experts to create a more inclusive and understandable legal experience.
