Inspiration
Using complicated legal jargon in documents makes end users difficult without legal training or education to understand the meaning and implications of the language. This can disproportionately affect people who do not have access to legal representation or who speak English as a second language, potentially denying them equal protection under the law.
What it does
Our solution to this problem is Legal Glossary Education a tool that allows users to translate lengthy legal documents into concise, easy-to-read outlines. Users can either upload pdf files or directly paste text into a form and quickly receive a report containing a bulleted list of key points and table of important legal definitions. It even educates users with meanings of most important jargon terms. It makes legal agreement process simplified and easier to read and understand.
How we built it
We used the OpenAI ChatGPT's natural language processing abilities. Using Next.js and React as the framework, we built a web application deployed on Vercel App where they can from different devices.
Challenges we ran into
We ran of Open AI's API credential limitation so we had to create new Open AI keys. And also Berri.ai instance creation is little hassle where immediate response wasn't getting.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Building the tool to make legal agreements hassle free.
What we learned
Learning berri.ai tool which is easier to create within minutes.
What's next for Legal Glossary Education
We are aiming to add categories in the result page to provide users with a more comprehensive analysis of the lease and prevent scams from happening.
