Inspiration

The age of digital transformation propels the need for replacing the heavy dependency on paper based work. Legal department could be one such area which could have a major change through digital transformation process

What it does

For my case study, Creation and maintenance of "Will" is taken. The case types are segregated into Register, Review and ReadWill to perform specific tasks of the workflow.

The Register case type collects information about the customer(member) like name, address, nominee details, signatory details etc. Th Member ID becomes the key for further processing of review, read will case types

The Review if to amend any changes to will created or generally to check on unreported deaths etc

The ReadWill is executed with the nominees once the customer will is ready to be read,

How we built it

  1. This application is built on Pega 8.7.3 version (trial version from Pega).
  2. .The implementation application is "EWill" which is built on a framework application "EAS".
  3. The case types, data model , integration, channels and interfaces are completely built in "App Studio" and minor data transforms, activities and changes to specific flow actions were carried out in Dev Studio (App studio 100% compliant on UI)

Challenges we ran into

  1. Data propagation
  2. Auto creation of cases in job scheduler
  3. Reading and processing of attachments from Email

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. The entire framework is completely extendable. The data model and the case types could be extended for further requirements
  2. Opens up to new possibilities - the legal department is untapped territory in digital transformation and integration of blockchain concept is both novel and sustainable in future - it can lead up to many more new innovations and business cases in future
  3. App Studio adoption - being a developer for quite sometime and app studio is making life much more easier - the UI screens, data model creation, creation of email channel were completely done on App Studio and this saved a lot of time

What we learned

All the accomplishment that were listed above plus, An innovation mechanism that could be established for workflow dependent streams which are currently unexplored

What's next for Legal Consultation as a Service - Case Study

New innovation by exploring possibilities to use Azure Key Vault and AWS (not included in this demo yet but a work in progress version of the same)
