Inspiration
Food waste is costly -- it costs money, time, and hurts the environment. Isaiah and Dhruvesh wanted to solve this by leveraging cutting-edge AI technology to enable people to use leftovers instead of throwing them away.
What it does
LeftoverMesh takes a list of ingredients and leftovers, and uses computer vision and generative AI solutions to find recipes that align with your tastes. It has a variety of features, including:
- Computer vision ingredient identifier
- Generative AI recipe generator
- Recipe sharing via email
- Customizable food taste preferences
How we built it
We implemented the front end with React.js and Javascipt. The back end was implemented with Python and Django. We used Gemini and a Google computer vision service for the AI functionality.
Challenges we ran into
Primarily, the main challenge was finishing as many desired features within the time constraints.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating an end-to-end application within such a short-period of time, that solves a real-world problem.
What we learned
- How to use Google's AI tools.
- Improved our collaboration skills.
- Enhanced our knowledge in building full stack applications.
