Inspiration
We would like to have sustainable consumption habits, minimizes food waste, and promotes mindful cooking and grocery shopping practices.
What it does
Users get to enter ingredients & put up the day of purchase, they can manually choose these ingredients from inventory to generate recipes. Ingredients could be displayed in alphabetical order, or food freshness level (based on how long it has been here).
How we built it
We have developed the website using Javascript + MERN stack with frontend, backend, and databases. Some extra API is used as well, for example, EDAMAM API is utilized.
Challenges we ran into
Not familiar with the backend side of coding, and therefore spending too much time reviewing code & stuck on a bug.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finished with basic app functionality, though our interface is not built as close as what we have designed on figma.
What we learned
Should discuss more on coding logic instead of designing wireframes. The coding part is important, and reaching out to teammates are helpful too. Login system might be too complicated and time-consuming to build for the hackathon and key app features have higher priority than that.
What's next for LeftoverMagic
Implement a bookmark system and provide more functionality such as saving user preference on health diet. Could potentially set up a reminder if food is out for too long.
