Inspiration
As students of UVA we have seen the amount of food wastage that happens at the dining halls everyday, Some platters go barely touched, and if the staff are not taking these leftovers home they end up in trash. Also as we have engrained ourselves in Charlottesville we have become aware of the prevalence of homelessness and impoverished people, which is why we decided to make this platform.
What it does
LeftOver Love is a website where people can order leftover meals from any of three dining halls, and this food is dropped off at various homeless shelters in the Charlottesville Area. The Website has a staff side and a customer side, the staff side includes where the employee works (which dining hall), and a form where they fill out what foods are leftover and how many servings which are also packaged throughout the day. After each meal shift, the website goes live with the options. On the customer side, they can sign in and choose any two servings and order them free of charge. Then these food items are dropped off at 1 or 2 homeless shelters in the area by a staff member.
How we built it
HTML, JavaScript, and CSS
Challenges we ran into
We tried scraping the UVA Dine website, but the website was not built for scraping and they did not have a public API key so that we could pull information from the website, which means we had to hard code all the food items.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned along the way

What's next for LeftOver Love
Finishing the website, using an appropriate back-end(SQL), and maybe getting the API key from UVA dine website
