Inspiration
Every student has had an issue with group work, lazy teammates can singlehandedly ruin a groups grades. What if there was a tool that could alleviate group pressure by ensuring fair, equal contribution?
Currently, group work is a hotly contested topic, thats only really addressed through group contribution forms that are flawed.
We aimed to innovate the group work space in education through our project.
What it does
Ledgitt is a group-work contribution tracker. Teams agree a charter (who does what, when), log contributions in an append-only ledger that teammates confirm or dispute, and get early warnings at time checkpoints when someone falls behind their own plan.
Ledgitt:
- Has a team charter available for everyone to stay up-to-date with their responsibilities.
- Ledger for logging work contributions
- Paste warnings to flag potential copy-and-pastes. Once its explained, the flag is cleared
- Checkpoints based on time to the due-date, with reminders based on work completed
- Teacher view, displaying checkpoint warnings and team status
How we built it
Built using Python FastAPI backend with a SQLite database, and the frontend was built with React. Checkpoint engine compares a member's confirmed points to what the charter says they should have done by then, and they're flagged if they fall below half the team median.
Frontend paste detection hooks into TipTap editor, checking for pastes includes pastes over 200-characters, or 300 characters typed in a 10-sec interval is flagged. If the text already exists in the document then it is not flagged,
Challenges we ran into
Ideation for innovative ideas that were not done yet in the space of education. Word integration for intended functionality
What's next for Ledgitt
Word and other document editor integration, updating the functionality to be more unique alongside those integrations.
