Inspiration

Running a business is already hard. Managing finance shouldn’t make it harder. We kept seeing the same pattern in SMEs: owners rely on gut feel because they don’t have time to learn accounting, and accountants are drowning in admin. Waiting days for answers like “How much did we earn today?” or “Can we afford this purchase?” is normal, but it shouldn’t be.

That sparked the idea: What if talking to your accountant felt as easy as talking to your phone? That became Ledgerly - an intelligent Accountant and CFO that works through natural conversation.

What it does

Ledgerly is an intelligent accountant and CFO for business owners. You talk to it the same way you talk to your human accountant, and it handles the work behind the scenes.

It can: Answer financial questions instantly - sales, cash balance, burn rate, runway, margins Give guidance - ROI, risk warnings, investment scenarios Automate admin - create invoices, record double entries, reconcile transactions Summarize financial health in plain language Sync with future banking / fintech integrations for real-time data The whole goal is simple: Turn all the boring accounting admin into a quick, natural conversation.

How we built it

We broke the system into five core layers:

  1. Voice layer ElevenLabs for natural speech input and output.

  2. Intent + command engine Anthropic to parse requests and map them to accounting tasks.

  3. Accounting logic layer A rules-based financial engine that handles: -double entry bookkeeping -ratio calculations -burn-rate formulas -anomaly detection For example:

  4. Data + actions Convex as the reactive backend Future hooks prepared for Ryt-Bank and fintech APIs.

  5. Frontend Vercel-hosted voice-first UI, designed with references for clean patterns. To speed up development we used Cursor, Coderabbit, and automation. Apify for scraping industry benchmarks.

Challenges we ran into

Translating vague voice commands into accurate financial operations. Ensuring accounting outputs are correct every time. Keeping latency low when mixing speech - reasoning - math - speech. Building a CFO-level explanation layer that feels trustworthy, not “AI vague.” Designing a futuristic interface without overwhelming non-technical users. Fitting an ambitious product into a 24 hour timeline.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We shipped a working voice accountant that genuinely feels intuitive. Real-time voice queries returning accurate financial answers. Automated double entries from natural language. A clean interface with neon-aqua design language. A modular architecture ready for live banking integrations. Built almost the entire prototype using modern AI developer tools in record time.

What we learned

Business owners don’t want software. They want clarity. Voice removes huge friction if the system is fast and reliable. Accounting logic is surprisingly expressible in structured, rule-based flows. Modern AI tools let small teams build systems in 24 hours that used to take months. The future of accounting is conversational, not form-based.

Predictive analytics & recommendations: More advanced forecasting, investment advice, and scenario simulations using AI reasoning. Expanded automation: Auto-categorization of receipts, expenses, and invoices with minimal user input. Mobile-first experience: A fully voice-driven mobile app so founders can run their business from anywhere. Localization & scaling: Support multiple currencies, local accounting standards, and small business markets globally. Continuous learning: Ledgerly will learn from past financial patterns to provide smarter alerts and guidance over time.
