Every great project starts with a simple question: "Who is being left behind?"

During a brainstorming session, we talked about how easy it is to miss a crucial detail in a fast-paced college lecture. If you are a hearing student, your fallback is easy—you lean over to a classmate, check your phone, or scrub back through a lecture recording.

But for a Deaf or hard-of-hearing (DHH) student relying on live sign-language interpreters or auto-generated captions, there is no built-in "rewind and re-explain" in a live classroom. If they look away to write a note, or if two similar-sounding terms get confused, that information is simply lost. Captions are flat, linear, and transient.

We wanted to build something that shifts the paradigm: transforming transient, fleeting audio into a persistent, non-linear, and highly visual structured map. LectureLens was born to ensure that the user can grasp the hierarchy of an entire lecture at a single glance, without ever needing to rely on the auditory source again.
