Inspiration

As a student, lecture material ends up in several places: slides, the lecturer's notes, and sometimes a recording. Before an exam I have to go through all of it and piece it together myself, which takes a long time.

What it does

Lecture Notes Pack is a UGREEN NAS Skill. I tell my NAS assistant which course and lecture I mean, and it finds the lecture files, reads the slides and the lecturer's notes, and, if there is a recording, turns it into text. Then it writes one study notes file with a summary, the main points, key terms, and practice questions with answers. It shows me the notes first and saves them to my folder only after I approve.

How it works

The Skill is a single SKILL.md file that follows UGREEN's Skill format. It never touches files itself. It hands each job to the NAS's own experts:

  • file-agent (ug-filesystem) finds the lecture files
  • knowledge-agent (ug-knowledge) transcribes the recording and saves the notes
  • document-agent (ug-document) reads the slides and the lecturer's notes

Every step only reads, except the final save, which needs my approval. If a file can't be found or read, the Skill says so and never invents content.

Challenges

I don't own a UGREEN NAS, so I built the Skill from UGREEN's public capability catalog and checked it by hand against the Skill format rules. I also made the recording optional, because many students, including me, don't record their lectures.

Not tested yet

This is a first version that has not run on a real NAS. Two things still need testing: whether PowerPoint slides can be read, and whether .aac phone recordings can be transcribed. If a file can't be read, the Skill tells the user and suggests exporting it to PDF.

AI tools used

I wrote this Skill with help from Claude (Anthropic), which I used to explain UGREEN's Skill format and draft the Skill text.

What's next

Test it on a real UGREEN AI NAS, confirm which file types work, and improve the quality of the practice questions.
