Inspiration

Many people get stuck in cycles of overthinking and repeated checking when facing uncertainty. We wanted to build a simple tool that helps people build capability, one interrupted compulsive cycle at a time, and return to everyday life instead of getting trapped in endless analysis.

What it does

Leave1% guides users through a structured intervention that separates immediate real-world safety from uncertainty. It helps people build capability by interrupting one compulsive cycle, leaving one small action unfinished, practicing uncertainty, and returning to what matters.

How we built it

We built Leave1% with React Native, Expo, and TypeScript. The current MVP demonstrates the complete intervention flow using deterministic guidance, with an architecture designed to support structured AI-generated interventions in future versions while keeping the Human Safety Gate outside the language model.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was deciding where AI should stop. We realized that immediate real-world safety should never depend on a language model, so we designed the Human Safety Gate as a deterministic step that always comes first. Any future AI integration will support the intervention only after that boundary has been crossed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built a calm, focused intervention experience with clear safety boundaries, a capability-first interaction model, and a product philosophy that helps people tolerate uncertainty instead of trying to eliminate it.

What we learned

Sometimes the most helpful technology doesn't provide more answers—it helps people build capability, one interrupted compulsive cycle at a time. We learned that helping someone move forward can be more valuable than helping them feel completely certain.

What's next for Leave1%

Future versions will introduce structured AI-generated interventions, greater personalization, Apple Watch support, HealthKit integration, and richer progress visualizations—all while preserving the Human Safety Gate as the sole safety authority. Our long-term goal is to help people build the capacity to live with uncertainty, one small step at a time.
