Inspiration

My father is in the rental industry and is nearing retirement age. In order to simplify his job, I created LeaseIt.info which is a simple rental application portal that allows him to take applications and application fees online, removing the need to meet in person with each applicant.

What it does

This application takes information from a potential tenant, processes an application fee, and delivers email copies of the application to both the landlord and tenant.

How I built it

I used a mixture of Stripe Checkout and Django to set this website up.

Challenges I ran into

Having no prior experience with JavaScript, it was a bit of a challenge to implement Stripe Checkout on the website at first. However, I learned a bit about callbacks and how JavaScript works in order to get that solved.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

It was gratifying to see the finished product, especially when my dad got his first application processed through the website less than a week after the website was launched.

What I learned

This project taught me about basic JavaScript needed in order to integrate the Stripe API with a web application, as well as setting up a server to be secure enough to handle sensitive information.

What's next for LeaseIt.info

At some point in the future, a rework is definitely in order. I created this as a side project before I knew entirely what I was doing with Django, so it's a bit hacked together and isn't my best project. I'll likely create that with an AngularJS frontend and a Django REST Framework backend.
