LEASE FAIRY

Our team created Lease Fairy because each of us has struggled with renting in Collegetown. Reading a lease for the first time felt intimidating, and none of us knew whether we were signing something risky or unfair especially under time pressure when apartments fill quickly.

We’ve all experienced landlord issues that left us confused and unprotected:

• One teammate had people enter and tour her apartment without any notice.
• Another never received her security deposit and still has no response from the landlord.
• Another dealt with a serious bug infestation that went unanswered for more than two weeks.

In every situation, we were unsure of our rights and had no idea how to use our lease to advocate for ourselves. These shared frustrations inspired us to build Lease Fairy, a tool that gives every renter the clarity, confidence, and support we always wished we had.

Our Approach

Our biggest strength as a team was ideation.
We envisioned a rich set of features, including:

• An integrated AI chatbot
  
• A built-in legal jargon highlighter with inline definitions
  
• A notification system that alerts renters about important lease dates (like when they should receive their security deposit)

With limited time, we focused on delivering:

• A strong AI-generated overview of the lease
  
• A Red Flags section highlighting potential issues
  

One of our biggest challenges was making the system pull information directly from the uploaded lease instead of generating unrelated content. Solving this took significant effort but made our demo accurate and effective.

Future Plans

We plan to expand Lease Fairy to analyze more than just rental agreements.
Our long-term vision is to support additional legal and financial documents so users can gain clarity and confidence across a broader range of situations.
