Inspiration

India has rapidly advanced digital education and engagement, still leaving behind many challenges—low retention, unreliable attendance, and no personalized assistance for learners from vulnerable communities. I saw in college how students of different rates of learning could struggle in the same learning space, leading to dropout or inability to navigate a learning environment. Adding to this, problems with feeding and absenteeism, and lack of parental engagement widen the learning gap especially in rural and disadvantaged schools. These problems informed my thinking about an AI solution, one that would use AI for academic, attendance, nutrition, social-emotional, and develop parental awareness. This is how Learnova AI began—a platform that personalizes, includes, and drives learning through data to create a world where every child can succeed.

What it does

Learnova AI is an adaptive intelligent education platform that learns the needs of each student with AI. The key features include:

🍲Mid-Day Meal - tracking food served and attendance; making sure no child is left behind.

🚸Dropout Risk Predictor - the AI picks up early warning signs and informs the teacher / parent.

📱Parental Alerts - informs the parent about the students progress, attendance and wellness.

💙Community & Emotional wellness tracker - observes a students mental health and provides timely interventions.

👤Face Recognition Attendance - explains how in using AI based face recognition the students presence is taken automatically freeing the teacher and helping to be more accurate.

How we built it

Challenges we ran into

Assembling and curating trustworthy datasets for AI model training was a significant obstacle. Protecting privacy and safeguarding sensitive student information. Creating a platform that is accessible and usable for rural and low-resourced schools. Harmonizing various features—attendance, nutrition, emotional well-being—while not overloading its users. Creating an AI system that is scalable and affordable across thousands of government schools.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Developed a 360 approach that isn't limited to academic measures, but considers attendance, nutrition, and emotional health consideration for children. Created a dropout risk prediction model powered by AI which can send alerts to parents and educators. Incorporated a facial recognition attendance system to allow for faster attendance identification, able to manage an onboarding system that provided attendance-taking accuracy and transparency. Created a real-time dashboard for all teachers to use, including parents and administrators for engaging with actionable insight. The mobile and web app is designed to be able to form foundations that can support and grow with government education programs up to millions of students.

What we learned

The value of human-AI collaboration in significant areas, such as education. How predictive AI models can be paired with social elements (e.g., parental involvement and monitoring of conditions like nutrition). The need to design for inclusion, e.g., rural students, tribal communities, and language diversity. How educational AI-based solutions can support national policies, such as NEP 2020, and Digital India.

What's next for Learnova AI – An Adaptive Learning & Innovation Platform

Pilot trials in schools and colleges through collaborations with universities. Adding a locally spoken language option to widen the usability of the platform to all areas. Additional features to include voice-based AI tutors for students with very limited reading skills. Working with support from state governments and NGOs to bring deployments to rural and tribal schools. Further development of the AI analytics engine for richer insights on student progress, nutrition, and wellbeing. Scaling the platform into a national-level education innovation model that can reduce dropouts and improve outcomes across India.
