Inspiration

Due to COVID-19, millions of students have been reduced to online learning and forced to find several resources to adapt to their transition. This overall has taken a huge toll financially and solutions for an effective learning environment have been in high demand. We’ve seen this through platforms like Zoom and Houseparty grow in popularity due to their ability to connect people in this time.

While we’re all students currently going through this online transition, we wanted to develop something that can better connect all the resources and skills required for a student’s learning experience. Paying for long private learning sessions and multiple online resources can be difficult for an average student who relies on financial aid for their education. We wanted to create something affordable and effective in developing a student’s skills online while creating an environment for them to better connect with others during these isolating times.

As well, the platform aims to connect professionals who are struggling currently with finding employment to offer their skills and resources to students. Millions of people have become unemployed due to COVID-19 and Learn Now aims to help those professionals connect with the students who are interested in learning similar skills.

What it does

The platform is created to provide a wide range of resources a student might need through their learning. Whether they are comfortable or not connecting with a professional, there are other ways to learn from the site including shared resources from professionals and an interactive game learning module designed to help students collaborate and learn in an active environment. All they have to do is sign up for an account and make their profile.

LearnNow also helps build a reputation for professionals. Through providing learning resources for students and sharing their skills in the active learning modules, they can build up a portfolio of experience right on their profiles right when they sign up. This helps professionals gain traction when students are searching for a new skill and see the vast amount of experience a professional has.

How I built it

We built this project using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Javascript (ES6), VueJS, Firebase (Google Cloud), and Post (for the REST API).

Challenges I ran into

We ran challenges into merging our code. We ran problems with using different API's We sometimes focused on the wrong parts of the website, instead of all the different capabilities we could have added.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are proud of how good the site looks like and the different functionality we made using firebase and youtube API.

What I learned

We learned more about how to use vue.js and how to collaborate with one another.

What's next for LearnNow - Collaborative Learning Platform

We want to add more API's such as using a Reddit API, where the user can post questions from the site and get there answers promptly.
