About the Project

Inspiration

As a third-year student, I realized that first-year students often struggle to find quality learning resources. Many don't know which platforms or channels to trust. My own experience navigating this challenge inspired me to create "LearnFree," a platform that democratizes access to education by providing free courses from reputable YouTube channels, along with AI support to help students ask questions and clarify doubts.

What it does

"LearnFree" offers a curated selection of free courses on various subjects, specifically tailored for first-year students. The platform features videos from top YouTube channels and includes an AI assistant that provides instant answers to students' questions, making learning accessible and interactive.

How we built it

We built "LearnFree" using modern web technologies such as React for the frontend, enabling a responsive and user-friendly interface. The backend is powered by Node.js and Express, handling data management and AI functionalities. We integrated the OpenAI API to facilitate the AI support feature, allowing students to interactively ask questions while learning.

Challenges we ran into

One of the major challenges was curating content from multiple YouTube channels while ensuring that the material was appropriate and beneficial for first-year students. Additionally, integrating the AI assistant posed technical challenges in terms of ensuring accurate and relevant responses to user queries.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created a functional prototype that allows users to access a variety of courses and interact with the AI assistant. Receiving positive feedback from peers during early testing was a significant accomplishment, as it validated our concept and approach.

What we learned

Throughout the development of "LearnFree," I learned valuable lessons about user experience design, content curation, and the importance of accessibility in education. Additionally, I gained experience in integrating AI functionalities into a web application, which was a challenging yet rewarding endeavor.

What's next for LearnFree

Moving forward, we plan to expand the course offerings by collaborating with educational institutions and popular content creators. We aim to enhance the AI assistant's capabilities, making it more intuitive and context-aware. Ultimately, our goal is to establish "LearnFree" as a go-to resource for students seeking to learn for free, with ongoing improvements and new features based on user feedback.
