Inspiration

Every student learns differently, but traditional learning methods often cannot provide individual attention to everyone. We wanted to create a platform that makes learning more personalized, interactive, and accessible. This inspired us to build LearnMate AI, a smarter way for students to learn at their own pace.

What it does

LearnMate AI is an AI-powered personalized learning platform that helps students understand concepts and improve their learning experience.

Key features include:

• AI Tutor: Provides explanations and learning assistance for students.
• Interactive Quizzes: Helps students test their knowledge and evaluate their understanding.
• Study Materials: Allows students to access and upload learning resources, including documents.
• Progress Tracking: Displays learning progress, study activity, and quiz performance.
• Personalized Learning: Supports different learning levels and helps students focus on their learning goals.

How we built it

We built LearnMate AI using a modern web development stack. The frontend uses React, TypeScript, and Vite to create an interactive and responsive user interface. The backend uses Node.js and Express to handle API requests and application functionality. We integrated Google's Gemini API for AI-powered tutoring and quiz generation, and Supabase for database integration and cloud data management. We deployed the backend on Render and the frontend on Vercel.

Challenges we ran into

One of our main challenges was integrating the frontend with the deployed backend and configuring API requests across different hosting platforms. We also faced issues with AI API quotas, request errors, and environment variables. Testing the application, debugging deployment issues, and making sure the different features worked together required careful troubleshooting.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have developed and deployed a working personalized learning platform with an interactive dashboard, study materials, quizzes, progress tracking, and AI tutoring functionality. We successfully connected the frontend and backend across cloud hosting platforms and created a foundation that can be expanded with more intelligent learning features.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained practical experience in full-stack web development, API integration, cloud deployment, database configuration, debugging, and user interface design. We also learned how to handle environment variables, troubleshoot deployment issues, and integrate AI capabilities into a real-world application.

What's next for LearnMate AI

Our future plans include improving AI Tutor reliability, expanding personalized learning recommendations, introducing early-risk prediction to identify students who may need additional support, and enhancing learning analytics. We also aim to strengthen data persistence, security, and scalability to support a larger number of students.
