Inspiration

I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've sat down at my desk, mind fresh, ready to learn a new skill, when I find myself mindlessly scrolling away on my phone, just minutes later. Sometimes my feed isn't interesting, yet I still feel the urge to scroll, just that stimulation of moving my finger up and down. One day I was thinking, why can't learning be like this. So that's exactly what I did by creating LearnLoop. Now not only am I learning but in a fun way. I hope that this website helps other kids the way it helps me. Now instead of pulling out my phone to scroll I can simply hop on LearnLoop, and learn a new skill with that same scrolling experience.

What it does

LearnLoop utilizes AI to give the user the best experience possible. The user is able to interact with out AI chatbot to get a personalized lesson plan, anywhere from learning derivatives or even just basic multiplication. The AI will generate a lesson and once you review that you can actually practice with our personal feed feature. The AI will generate a set of questions for you to review and they will be arranged like a set of reels that you can scroll through and answer. If you don't know the answer you can simply scroll past it and review it later. The AI will then give you a message on how you did and recommend a new lesson, where you can rinse and repeat! I believe that people will have a new found vigor to learn and grow because of LearnLoop, as it makes learning fun and meaningful. There is also a leaderboard among the users for some friendly competition, and users can earn XP by answering questions and completing lessons. Through this XP they can level up, and make their way up the leaderboard.

How we built it

LearnLoop was mainly built with Cursor, using vite react, and js. I used Groq for the AI chatbot, and content generation, creating an API key, while I used Supabase for the login system.

Challenges we ran into

One main challenge I ran into was handling the cool down limit for the API key. Of course I am on a free tier plan, meaning that I can not freely ask the AI as many questions as I want, and I realized my users would not be able to do so either. However, I still wanted them to learn as they wish and not see a random cool down error in the middle of their "flow state." To get around this problem, I developed a credits system, so that every user gets 100 credits each day, and tasks like asking the AI a question or generating a lesson, take up a certain amount of credits.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am happy that the competitive layout has come along nicely. Users can easily view their analytics on how many lessons they have completed, how many questions they have answered, and even their accuracy rate amongst other things, Additionally, with the level and XP feature, I believe that the players will be able to find motivation to keep going and rise up in the leaderboard.

What we learned

A key thing I learned during the process of making LearnLoop was that perspective always matters. I kept looking at short form content like it was such a bad thing, but what I never realized was that I was always just using it in the wrong way. Now I realize that it is always best to look at something through a different set of lenses, and this applies to just about everything. As I already mentioned, I had a problem figuring out what to do with the Groq API key cooldown system. At first I was disappointed and mad at myself for not remembering about it, but instead I decided to create a whole new system. Once I got to that, I started thinking that I could even create a pro plan for LearnLoop to allow for users to get more credits, and use that money to get a better plan for Groq. So with a fresh perspective I turned a roadblock into opportunity.

What's next for LearnLoop

I believe LearnLoop can go very far and I plan to take it there. I want to partner up with education companies and hope that they see merit in my idea. I plan to advocate for my website at local schools and even hope that they will use this to help them learn. I also want to create multiple tier levels as I already mentioned, in hopes to upgrade to a better Groq plan, allowing all users to get the uninterrupted learning time they deserve.
