Inspiration
I learned about project based learning (PBL) through experience last year, and with AI taking the world by storm -- this meshup of AI and PBL, as I envision, has to be the future of how students learn in this complex, dynamic world. LEARNING LAB AI is the first stab, though very rough, but I hope to iterate it and imagine more features to be a standout edtech.
What it does
LEARNING LAB AI is essentially a chatbot companion with various capabilities to support students in their project based learning.
How we built it
Google slides.
Challenges we ran into
I found a website with PBL statistics which seems too good to be true, and alas the references were very sketchy. Spent a lot of time on researching and validating my research.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I really like the aesthetic of the slides, though not certain that it would be the final look for LEARNING LAB AI though. I am happy I completed it in time.
What we learned
Oh man, from my research, it seems there are folks who have been talking about AI in education for a while now, but schools are not taking initiative to capitalize on AI and totally innovate in education.
What's next for LEARNING LAB AI: Project Based Learning + AI
I hope to pursue education policy research or educational technology -- so I will likely revisit this idea. I also plan to conduct Participatory Action Research (PAR), and I can use a chatbot like LEARNING LAB AI -- ahem chatgpt -- to see how my PAR can be a PBL using AI. My PAR would be on AI policies and implementations in NYC public schools with the larger goal to gather students' visions for the future of learning. So many ways to extend this work beyond just my idea of LEARNING LAB AI!
