Inspiration

We thought about what struggles we have during high school. Essays was something that many of us struggled on.

What it does

An easy-to-use web-based study tool to help students increase productivity by assisting them produce high quality essays and papers! Our essay constructor uses GPT-3 Artificial Intelligence to provide students the finest opportunity to compose a successful and informative paper.

How we built it

We started by coming up with the idea. We were brainstorming problems we see as students, and we identified a major issue, which is that writing essays is difficult and it’s very tough to get started. We felt like if there was a product that could give us a little nudge, it would make writing essays a lot easier. Initially, we wanted to create a website where users inputs pre-written sentences, and our program organizes the sentences into an essay (inspiration from NoodleTools). We later decided on using AI to take the user inputs and generate an essay. When designing our website, our goals were to create a website with a clean, modern, and minimalistic user interface. We also wanted our website to be user-friendly and extremely simple to use. Building our website, we coded it page by page. We divided up the work based on skill sets, HTML for structure, CSS for design, and JS for user-interactivity.

Challenges we ran into

While creating our product, we ran into multiple challenges. Firstly, we had to come up with a smart, efficient, new idea. While creating our product, we also realized that our product also had negative effects, which we decided to add cheating prevention methods to counter that. One major challenge we ran into was time constraints. We initially wanted to build a website with two major features, the essay constructor and a progress tracker, but due to limited time, we decided to focus all our efforts onto the Essay Constructor. We also ran into some technical challenges, such as not knowing how to code with AI. We turned this challenge into a learning opportunity and learned how to incorporate AI into our website.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

One major accomplishment that we're proud of is being able to come up with such an unique idea. LearnHub is a revolutionary, new way to help students with essays. We are also very proud of our teamwork. We had strong communication, we played on each other’s strengths and weaknesses, gave each other suggestions and learned from one another.

What we learned

We learned to always keep the user in mind. We had to answer questions such as "How can we make it more user-friendly?" and "How can we get mass approval from students, parents, and educators?". We also learned that communication is key, that we need to be vocal about our ideas, and constantly be communicating with our teammates. We also learned how to incorporate AI into a program and website.

What's next for LearnHub

Adding more features to help students with their assignments, adding a progress tracker feature that allows educators to monitor students’ progress on assignments, adding the ability to save work on our website, and adding a rate-limit feature to prevent users from abusing our website.
