Inspiration

We were inspired by our lackluster high school calculus education. We figured we could teach it in a more streamlined and concise manner, especially to those currently struggling with calculus in both high school and college.

What it does

So far, it provides a step-by-step guide to derivatives which matches the middle section of high school AP Calculus AB

How we built it

We used a server back home for both the domain and the server. One team member spent most of the allotted time creating calculus lessons and putting them up on the webpages while the other spent the time developing the main body of the website in CSS, HTML and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

Initially, we had lots of trouble hosting the website. We didn't want to spend money hosting the website, so we spent a significant amount of time trying to set it up on a home server. It was also the first multipage website either of us had created so there were many programming hiccups along the way.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to create a fully functional, user responsive, multipage website with 3000 words over 6 lessons of calculus, including example problems, practice problems, LaTeX rendering and Desmos graph embeds.

What we learned

A large amount of higher-level web development (as well as some great calc review and some LaTeX skills). Also, we learned how to prioritize tasks such as GitHub issues when there were tight time constraints.

What's next for LearnCalc

We plan on getting finishing the rest of the lessons to help self studiers prepare for the AP exam, or even those who just need help when their teachers aren't enough. We are planning to make this a complete, comprehensive guide to AP Calc AB/Calc 1.
