Inspiration
Millions of students in Nigeria and across Africa struggle to access quality learning resources. As an educator and founder of Shine Brighter Books & Co, I have witnessed how language barriers, limited access to tutors, and a lack of personalized learning support prevent many students from reaching their full potential. I was inspired to build LearnBrighter AI to make education more accessible, engaging, and inclusive. My goal was to create an AI-powered learning assistant that can explain complex topics in simple language, support local learners through Hausa explanations, and help students prepare effectively for examinations.
What it does
LearnBrighter AI is an educational platform powered by Google's Gemini AI. It helps students learn faster and understand difficult concepts through personalized explanations. Key features include: AI-powered topic explanations Exam preparation mode Hausa language learning support Simplified explanations for difficult subjects Mobile-friendly learning experience Instant educational assistance anytime and anywhere Students simply enter a topic such as Photosynthesis, Algebra, or Climate Change, and LearnBrighter AI generates easy-to-understand explanations tailored to their learning needs.
How we built it
LearnBrighter AI was developed using modern web technologies and Google's Gemini API. Technology Stack Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript Backend: Node.js AI Engine: Gemini API Cloud Infrastructure: Google Cloud services Development Process Identified key learning challenges faced by students. Designed a simple and intuitive user interface. Built a responsive web application optimized for mobile devices. Integrated Gemini AI to generate educational content. Implemented Hausa Mode for localized learning. Added Exam Mode to help students prepare for assessments. Tested the application using real educational topics and improved responses through continuous refinement.
Challenges we ran into
Building LearnBrighter AI came with several challenges: Limited access to advanced development resources and hardware. Learning how to effectively integrate AI models into a web application. Optimizing prompts to ensure accurate and educational responses. Creating localized learning experiences for diverse users. Managing development and testing while working with limited funding. Despite these challenges, we remained focused on creating a practical solution that delivers real educational value.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have: Built a working AI-powered educational assistant. Successfully integrated Gemini AI into the platform. Created Hausa language support to improve accessibility. Developed an exam preparation feature for students. Designed a mobile-friendly learning experience. Demonstrated how AI can be used to address educational inequality. Most importantly, we transformed an idea into a functional solution capable of helping learners gain knowledge more effectively.
