About
I wanted to create an environment in which people are encouraged to learn through the things that they enjoy doing, so I chose to build a game that builds on that ideal. Games can be proven to be a real distraction when it comes to learning, not only for young people but an older demographic as well. Thats why I chose to blend the two in a unique way. Every person has a different motivation for learning a language, but the hardest part is sticking to that goal consistently. By building an experience that would keep the user engaged while still learning as quickly as anyone else, I aimed to challenge that idea of inconsistency. Using Snap. Spectacles and Lens Studio I was able to create an environment by building on top of an existing sample project that let me hit the ground running. By leveraging Claude to aid writing the scripts for the actions I wanted to perform, I was able to streamline the process of creating sequences and feedback loops. This allowed me to focus on fixing errors, creating the final game environment materials and objects, and wire everything together so they would flow well for the user. However when it comes to brand new technology, this was no easy feat. One of my biggest goals was a multiplayer feature that going to be the highlight of the project and the thing that I believe would have truly set it apart. Sadly I was not able to put the pieces together in time, but in future that is the first thing on my mind. After endless bug fixes and pivots, a fully function game was created. It was both humbling and exciting to work with such proprietary technology that I am very proud to have created anything at all. The technical learnings that I come away with are plenty and could deserve an essay on their own, but the thing that I walk away with from this project that will stick with me for the longest will be this; As long as I am able to keep my mind open and ready to accept change when needed while facing what seems like an insurmountable task, it is achievable as long as I do not give up. A little corny, I know, but the truth nonetheless.
