Inspiration

The theme was about breaking the boundaries so we thought helping others in a certain way (helping how to code) would be a great start. However, in other platforms where they only provide online video courses can be a bit harder to understand. Some people might find it hard to communicate with others to ask questions about the problem. Therefore, we created a platform where you can learn how to code and ask questions regarding the topic at the same time.

How It Works

The way Learncode works is that first you will need to register and then be asked some questions about your coding skills. There is an option to choose to be a mentor or a mentee. As a mentee, you can choose languages and topics that you want to learn and as a mentor, you can choose which languages do you want to help the mentees with. Then, Learncode will match you using the data stored with other mentees and mentors. Once your profile has been set up, a mentee can start the courses that they want to learn and during the online video courses if the mentee has some questions to ask, the online available mentors can help answer their question or the mentee can post the question to the discussion forum where other mentees might be able to help answer the problem.

Platform Used

The platform that we used to make Learncode was Bubbleio which allows you to build a website without any coding skills. The reason we chose this platform is because we are all fairly new to the world of coding and there was not a lot of time to be able to develop Learncode.

How We Built It

When we started developing Learncode, each and every one of the members were doing a task of their choice, whether it’s making the profile pages, editing the home pages and adding the little details to the whole thing. We want every one of our members to feel comfortable with what they are confident in doing and not pressure them into doing something that they are not confident with.

Challenges We Ran Into

During the process, of course there were some challenges faced. Because it was our first time using Bubbleio ad well, we were struggling to edit the pages simultaneously at first, but then we managed to find a way to solve it. Learning more and more about Bubbleio as we go.

Accomplishment We’re Proud Of

In the end, we were all pretty happy and satisfied with the development of Learncode. We are all proud of each and every page of what we did, the details, formatting, and everything else with the time that was given during this hackathon.

What We Learned

What we achieved from this experience is that developing whether it is an application or a website is definitely not easy, it takes time and patience to do it. It is hard to develop a platform overnight, especially if it’s your first time joining a hackathon as well. We also learned that there will always be problems in a project, no matter if it’s a minor or a major one, but what we need to do is to work together as a team and use everyone’s ideas to help solve the problems together.

What’s Next For Learncode

It all started with just a simple idea which was breaking the boundaries into something much more than that. We want to help others in a unique yet innovative way that has never been done before. We want people who struggles with online learning to be more comfortable and confident with online learning. We hope that in the future, whether it be Learncode or another platform, it will be able to deliver our aims which was to help others with coding and to socialise by asking questions directly do mentors or to the public discussion forum. We hope our idea can help inspire others to help people with coding in a more creative way.
