Inspiration

The inspiration for LEAP (Learning Enhancement And Progression) came from recognizing the unique challenges women face in accessing resources and guidance tailored to their professional journeys. Many women pursue knowledge independently, balancing multiple responsibilities, and often lack personalized tools to support their growth. We wanted to build an application that addresses these needs, helping women set clear learning paths that align with their goals and aspirations, ultimately bridging the knowledge gap and advancing their skills.

What it does

LEAP provides a personalized learning experience by generating a curated learning path that aligns with the user’s background, skills, and ambitions. It recommends resources like books, courses, and articles, empowering users to strengthen their expertise in areas essential for career development. The timeline format helps users track progress, while the downloadable .docx feature offers flexibility, so women can easily access and review their learning plans at any time.

How we built it

LEAP was developed using Streamlit for the user-friendly interface, tailored to simplify navigation for women who might be new to tech platforms. On the backend, we used Python to process input and generate customized learning paths with the aid of AI models. We integrated python-dotenv to manage sensitive information securely, ensuring data privacy. The docx library was also incorporated to allow users to save and track their progress, making it easy for women to organize their study journey.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered challenges in ensuring that LEAP could accurately align with diverse learning needs and address common barriers faced by women, such as lack of access to advanced technical resources. Building a secure platform that maintains privacy while effectively using AI to personalize learning paths was another key challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created a tool that not only provides valuable educational resources but also promotes a supportive learning environment specifically aimed at advancing women’s skills. LEAP is accessible, personalized, and flexible, offering a unique learning solution that can encourage more women to pursue STEM fields and other traditionally male-dominated industries.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we deepened our understanding of the unique needs women have when navigating educational and career progression. We also honed our skills in developing secure, AI-driven applications that prioritize user privacy and flexibility, ensuring that LEAP is adaptable for users of all backgrounds.

What's next for LEAP - Learning Enhancement And Progression

Our vision is to expand LEAP by integrating mentorship opportunities and peer support features, connecting women with similar learning goals and providing a community aspect. We also plan to add more resources focused on women’s leadership, empowerment, and professional growth, further enhancing LEAP as a go-to platform for women looking to upskill and make strides in their careers.
