The NWG Hackathon
What it does
It predicts leaks in pipes based on multiple factors, and creates a simulation to show how changing spending on pipe replacements and proactive repairs could impact the overall leakage rate
How I built it
This was all built from scratch in the 2 days of the hackathon! Phew!!
Challenges I ran into
Time was probably the biggest challenge. We quickly were able to develop a vision, but in hindsight, this was overly ambitious
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Give that the team were very inexperienced and that their domain knowledge was negligible, I feel that we not only presented a viable option, we were able to present something that exceeded what other experts in the room could achieve in the same time frame.
What I learned
A lot about leaks! And at the same time the fact that there is little known about them. This means that although there have been years of analysis in this area, with more data and new techniques, there is still lots of value to gleaned by doing more.
What's next for Leakage Hackathon - Team Teen Wolf Leakage Simulation
We'd love to have the opportunity to work with NWG further, to bring the project to life. If not, then I think we actually could produce a viable product from the starting point we have now, with the view of turning it into something commercial.
