Inspiration

As kids, we all at some point or another have copied the moves of our favorite players from shots, ankle breakers, and even celebrations. Now we can see who is actually closer to Steph and Kobe.

What it does

We use AI motion capture technology to score users' imitations of their players’ signature moves, moments, and provide an in-depth breakdown the more they play to share and compare with their friends.

How we built it

We used body tracking software with the Mediapipe Library in Python.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we faced involved integrating AI motion capture software into our game development process. Initially, our goal was to use a similar AI model for capturing motion data and seamlessly transferring it into a real-time engine like Unity. We planned to train the AI model using capture data and identify professional players' movements, beginning with Kobe Bryant's iconic fadeaway shot. However, due to time constraints and ambitious scope, we had to adjust our approach. We refocused on leveraging our strengths in product and game design. Our revised approach involved creating an MVP by combining Python scripts, a captivating player story, and detailed mockups. This approach allowed us to effectively showcase the potential of the technology within the given timeframe.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're game devs and podcasters that created a sports tech product.

Were able to successfully implement our body tracking to create a playable game that is able to run consistently.

We designed an incredible player experience that can bring real value to fans, teams, and players.

We designed a game that incentivizes player retention by leveraging game design strategies.

What we learned

We learned about AI Libraries like Mediapipe for pose detection and body tracking. We also learned about effective practices for virality and engagement for users.

What's next for LeagueHim

Market the game to our reach of millions of players with own channels and friends to build interest in the basketball community. Develop the rest of the game based on the mockups we created and continue refining the motion tracking tech. Develop more content and add more moves!
