Inspiration

Plant diseases significantly reduce crop yield and are often difficult to identify in the early stages. Farmers and home gardeners may not always have immediate access to agricultural experts. We built LeafyCare AI to provide an intelligent assistant that helps users detect plant diseases and receive AI-powered guidance instantly using computer vision and Gemini AI.

What it does

LeafyCare AI allows users to capture or upload an image of a plant leaf to detect diseases using an AI model. Once a disease is identified, Gemini AI provides easy-to-understand explanations, possible causes, treatment recommendations, preventive measures, and personalized plant care guidance. Users can also ask follow-up questions through an AI assistant to better understand their plant's condition.

How we built it

Android application built using Java and Android Studio

Gemini API for AI-powered explanations and plant care assistance
Firebase/Supabase for user data and authentication (if applicable)

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was combining image-based disease detection with a conversational AI assistant that provides reliable and context-aware guidance. We also focused on creating a simple user experience while keeping AI responses useful and easy to understand.
