Inspiration

The frustration of sifting through complex electric bills led us to develop Leafpress. We envisioned a tool that would simplify energy analysis, empower users to make informed decisions and contribute to a more sustainable future.

What it does

Leafpress is an app that helps you analyse your electric bill and compare your usage with your neighbourhood. It provides a comprehensive analysis of energy consumption patterns, compares usage with neighbours, offers personalized recommendations for energy savings, and tracks carbon emissions. The app empowers users to make informed decisions and contribute to a more sustainable future.

How we built it

Leafpress was developed using a combination of advanced technologies:

  • OpenAI API: Utilized for vision and text models, enabling intelligent analysis of electric bills and generation of informative summaries.

  • Electricity Map API: Integrated to access neighbourhood-level energy data, providing valuable context for consumption comparisons and recommendations.

Challenges we ran into

One of the primary challenges we faced during the development of Leafpress was the limited availability of suitable energy APIs. Many options were either paid or had restricted free trial periods, making it difficult to find the right API for our project. Additionally, integrating data from multiple APIs required careful consideration of data formats, compatibility, and ensuring data integrity. To overcome these challenges, we conducted extensive research to identify the most suitable free API for our use case.

What's next for Leafpress

In the future, we plan to expand Leafpress by incorporating additional features designed to help users further reduce their carbon footprint. This could include integrating with smart home devices, providing more detailed recommendations for energy-efficient practices, and offering personalized carbon reduction plans.
