Inspiration

I love plants, especially trees, and I want to help people plant the right species in the right spots so they can truly thrive.

What It Does

By taking a picture of the sky and using the user’s location, LeafLight estimates the amount of sunlight a spot receives and recommends plant species that will flourish there.

How We Built It

LeafLight was developed and deployed entirely with Bolt!

Challenges We Faced

Integrating third-party services proved challenging, and obtaining consistent, high-quality plant images using AI remains difficult. Unfortunately, free advanced plant APIs with comprehensive data are scarce.

Accomplishments We’re Proud Of

The app successfully fetches a variety of species, including native plants. Its simple, guided workflow makes it incredibly easy for users to find suitable plants for their environment.

What We Learned

Building apps that integrate AI APIs like Gemini or OpenAI is surprisingly straightforward and accessible.

What’s Next for LeafLight

We plan to add detailed planting instructions and spacing guidelines to help users ensure each plant has enough room to grow to maturity.
