Inspiration
LeafIQ was inspired by the real-world struggle customers face when entering cannabis dispensaries unsure of what to buy. We noticed budtenders overwhelmed with the impossible task of memorizing extensive product inventories and terpene profiles. Our goal was not just to create an efficient tool, but to erase the stigma around cannabis use. We wanted to provide a welcoming space where new or less experienced users could comfortably explore cannabis without embarrassment or anxiety. LeafIQ offers an intuitive AI-powered solution enabling customers to effortlessly find cannabis products tailored to their "vibe," empowering them through education and personalized recommendations.
What We Learned
Throughout the project, we deepened our understanding of terpene science and its profound impact on user experiences. We discovered that simplifying complex cannabis chemistry into intuitive, vibe-based recommendations significantly enhanced customer satisfaction and dispensary efficiency.
How We Built LeafIQ
We developed LeafIQ using Bolt.new, leveraging its seamless deployment capabilities, along with React and TypeScript for a responsive and interactive front-end. Supabase provided a robust backend, seamlessly handling authentication, inventory management, and real-time data synchronization. AI-powered recommendations leveraged OpenAI’s GPT models integrated via Supabase Edge Functions, ensuring intelligent and accurate matches between customer desires and available inventory. Tailwind CSS and Framer Motion elevated our UI, delivering a sleek, intuitive, and engaging user experience.
Challenges We Faced
Integrating real-time inventory data from multiple POS systems posed significant challenges, requiring careful handling of data consistency and accuracy. Implementing conversational AI that maintained context and delivered cannabis-specific education without veering off-topic also tested our AI integration capabilities. Overcoming these hurdles required meticulous planning, iterative development, and rigorous testing.
Ultimately, our biggest lesson was the importance of user-centered design and robust data infrastructure, both critical to LeafIQ’s success.
