Inspiration

Our project addresses financial challenges women face, like lower earnings, fewer workforce opportunities, and caregiving roles. We created a platform to help women manage money confidently.

How we built it

We began with planning and research to identify essential features: budget calculators, a chatbot, and an expense tracker with reminders. We focused on a simple, easy-to-use interface design. For development, we used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, incorporating Vue.js for interactive elements. The chatbot is powered by the Gemini language model for conversations, and it uses DistilBERT embeddings to convert financial resources into searchable data. When the model’s response is inaccurate or lacking, the chatbot consults a Pinecone vector database on AWS to find relevant financial information, improving its answers. Usability testing helped us refine the platform to be user-friendly and responsive.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating multiple features seamlessly was tough, as was ensuring real-time data updates. Designing an easy-to-use interface required several iterations. We also had to ensure our financial advice and tools were accurate.

What we learned

We learned a lot about women's financial needs and how to address them. We improved our understanding of financial literacy and budgeting while also honing our web development and design skills.

What's next for LeadHer

With limited time, the chatbot currently accesses about 80 financial resources across 10 topics, which isn't enough for a large-scale rollout. In the future, we plan to add web scraping features so the database can automatically update at regular intervals. We also aim to enhance the budget calculator by including additional financial elements and linking the total costs in the reminders section with the monthly budget calculator.
