Inspiration
I was inspired by a project I did over the summer where I learned about how the marginalized community is affected by lead poisoning. Many of the neighborhoods that I live within are frequently run-down homes with a high chance of lead contamination. Lead contamination can impact both our physical and mental health greatly, so I wanted to create a website that educates the audience about it.
What it does
This is an informational website designed to address the concerns of lead poisoning in Oakland. Lead contamination is an increasingly dangerous issue that occurs often in Oakland, especially within low-income minority neighborhoods.
How we built it
I built it using Figma to format the user interface that I wanted, and then transferred it though HTML. I styled it with CSS and eventually used Javascript to create the quiz.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges I ran into was learning how to use Javascript.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud that I was able to manage to finish this project. I learned a lot of Javascript to create an interactive quiz in one of the pages, so it was an extremely challenging experience for me.
What we learned
I learned how to use new Javascript terms I wasn't familiar with, such as "Document getElementById()" and "ParseInt".
What's next for LEAD IN OAKLAND
I want to begin a funding page or petition to help the marginalized communities that suffer the most from lead contamination (Funding for lead tests, HEPA air purifiers, new healthy soil, etc).
I appreciate your attention and thank you for this opportunity.
