Many of our so-called widespread diseases can be counteracted with a healthy lifestyle, detailed education and targeted measures. Most of the diseases that the majority of people suffer from are not congenital, but occur in the course of life. Disease patterns such as diabetes (type 2), cardiovascular and kidney diseases, mental abnormalities (e.g. burnout), addictive behaviour and arthrosis are typical civilisation diseases in industrialised nations. When it comes to most of the common disease patterns, a lot can be achieved with smart health services.
A healthy lifestyle lowers the risk of chronic diseases much more significantly than previously assumed: Compared to people who live unhealthy lives, the risk of illness is reduced by up to 78 percent. Individually, the risk of diabetes decreases by as much as 93 percent and the risk of heart attack by 81 percent in people who meet all the criteria of a healthy lifestyle. The probability of suffering a stroke is still reduced by half and the risk of cancer by 36 percent (Institute in Potsdam-Rehbrücke, http://www.dife.de/forschung/abteilungen/publikationen.php?abt=ERG). This is even more important in today's day and age with COVID-19 stressing the immune system and most people working from home.
To counter the effects of an unhealthy lifestyle and save millions of lives, we developed Lea, a smart health assistant. Lea creates a personal health plan based on the three main pillars of preventive health care: exercise (stretching, sports), nutrition (diversified diet), and relaxation (yoga, meditation, autogenic training).
In our busy lives, we tend to neglect our health when left on our own. Lea makes staying healthy, both physically and mentally, as easy as possible.
What Lea Does
Lea sends you critical reminders, tips, and statistics - whenever you need them most. With Lea, you will never miss an appointment, a daily workout, or life-saving medications. It keeps you up to date on the pollen count, recommends exercises based on your preferences, and helps you stay on top of your health.
When it comes to health, the smallest changes often have the biggest impact. Building healthy habits is the difference between a long active life and constant health crises that take a toll on you, your family, and the whole health care system.
What Separates Lea From Other Solutions
Lea is unlike any other smart health solution. In times of abundant health applications, Lea stands out by being independent, platform-, and user friendly. You can access Lea's expertise and assistance anytime and anywhere, without having to download a separate application. Just connect to Lea on your communication platform of choice - WhatsApp, Telegram, or Messenger - and instantly take control of your health!
Getting people to download yet another application is unrealistic, cost-intensive and more often than not, leads to failure. With Lea, smart health assistance is only one click away - for billions of users worldwide.
How We Built Lea
Lea is built on top of Python and connects to all prominent communication interfaces, such as Telegram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.
Challenges We Ran Into
The biggest challenge for our team was defining a scope of features that would deliver instant value but could also be built within a rather short timeframe.
Accomplishments We Are Proud Of
We listened to early customer feedback and created a working product with real demand, a useful list of initial features, and wide-ranging possibilities to scale.
What We Learned
Above all, we learned how to quickly build and iterate a product that can help consumers in real-life situations. Creating a technological solution that thrives on usability forced us to hone in on features and health benefits that can make a difference without overwhelming users.
What's Next For Lea
We want to improve Lea by getting the solution into as many hands as possible and listening to further customer feedback. We will allow users to vote on future features to continue building reminders, tips and statistics that make a difference. Additionally, we will keep making Lea smarter and enhancing the assistant's understanding of natural language. As time goes on, Lea should enjoy a broad user base on all platforms - WhatsApp, Telegram, and Messenger - and help millions of people take control of their health.
