INTRODUCING EVERYDAY 2.0
Inspiration
Staying hydrated is essential, but finding working water refill stations on campus is a challenge. Many students waste time searching for stations, only to find them out of order. We wanted to create a simple, sustainable solution to improve hydration habits while reducing plastic waste.
What It Does
Everyday 2.0 enhances the UIC dining hall app by helping students:
- Locate water refill stations across East and West Campuses
- Check water refill station availabilities
- Stay hydrated while promoting sustainability
How We Built It
Frontend: Swift (iOS development), Figma (UI/UX design) Backend: OpenStreetMap API (location data) Tools/Libraries: MapKit, CoreLocation (GPS tracking), Swift Foundation, Canva
Challenges We Ran Into
Identifying a real, impactful problem rather than just building an app for the sake of it. Learning Swift & Xcode for the first time as a team. Integrating APIs to fetch real-time location data.
Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of
Successfully built a functional prototype in a short timeframe. Designed an intuitive, user-friendly interface. Overcame technical challenges despite being new to Swift & Xcode.
What We Learned
Swift & iOS Development: Navigating Xcode, UI design, and API integration. Team Collaboration: Efficient problem-solving and rapid development. User-Centered Design: Creating a product that directly benefits students.
What’s Next for Everyday 2.0?
Real-time traffic tracking for dining halls using GPS & Wi-Fi. Push notifications to alert users when they’re near an available refill station. Real time updates on refill station filter status. UI/UX Enhancements based on student feedback.
