Le Bulb
Inspiration As Indonesian students pursuing technology majors in China, we are hit by reality that even with HSK 5 certification, we struggle. We realized that everyday Chinese is one thing, but "Tech" Chinese is another. Every subject has its own complex vocabulary, and in a fast-paced lecture, one unfamiliar word can make you lose the entire hour. We built Le Bulb to turn that struggle into a strength, not just for us, but for the millions of international students globally who are brilliant in their fields but limited by a language barrier.
What it does Le Bulb is an AI-powered academic companion that turns spoken lectures into structured knowledge.
- Record & Translate: Captures live audio and provides real-time translation.
- Summary & Key Vocabularies: Generates concise summaries and extracts "Key Vocab" specific to that subject.
- Knowledge Visualization: Transforms lecture topic to help students see the big picture.
- Study Battles: Gamifies the review process through AI-generated quizzes to ensure the material is actually mastered, not just recorded.
How we built it We use Google AI Studio with the Gemini 3 Pro Preview model to handle complex multilingual processing. Key features integrated include:
- Transcribe audio: Our core engine for live capture, to record and translate in the app.
- Google search data: Provides real-time context and fact-checking.
- Gemini intelligence & AI powered chatbox: Allows students to ask follow-up questions about the lecture using "Ask Bulb" feature.
- Fast AI response: Optimized for the speed of real-time classroom environments.
- Think more when u needed: A logic-heavy processing mode for difficult technical concepts.
We use Canva & CapCut: Used to design the UI/UX and produce our project demonstrations.
Challenges we ran into Our biggest hurdle was Trial and Error. We found that general AI often struggles with highly specific technical vocabularies in Chinese. We had to refine our prompts and "Think more" logic to ensure the translation wasn't just literal, but academically accurate. App features also don't work well immediately, many fix were needed. We also had to frequently adjust our design, it’s easy to provide too much data, so we worked hard to make the interface clean and "stress-free" for students who are already feeling overwhelmed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We are incredibly proud of creating a working prototype that successfully bridges the gap between Audio and Visualization. Seeing a complex 20-minute Chinese lecture successfully turned into a clear, English summary and a set of vocabulary for students to learn and ace exams.
What we learned This project taught us the importance of Product Flow. We learned that a great app isn't just about cool features; it’s about how those features work together to solve a specific problem. We also grew significantly in our Teamwork, communicating what could be added, improved, or removed.
What's next for Le Bulb We want to take Le Bulb beyond the individual and into the classroom. Our roadmap includes:
- Allowing students to compete in study quizzes with classmates. Add streaks.
- Syncing Le Bulb directly with university platforms like Google Meet.
