Inspiration
"Every day, we see problems around us—potholes, garbage dumps, broken streetlights—but most of them go unreported because people don’t know whom to contact or how to raise a complaint. Even when issues are reported, there is no transparent way to track whether they are being fixed. This gap inspired us to build a platform that connects citizens, social workers, and authorities in one place. We wanted to create something simple, secure, and fast that makes communities cleaner and safer.
What it does
"Our platform allows people to easily report problems in their community—like potholes, garbage, or broken streetlights—by uploading a photo, adding a description, and marking the location. The report is then visible to local authorities and social workers through a dedicated dashboard. Social workers get a separate login where they can see nearby issues on a map, claim them, and update the progress. Admins can track, assign, and manage all reports in one place.
How we built it
"We started by identifying the core user roles—citizens, social workers, and administrators—and designed a clean user flow for each. We created wireframes for the home page, issue reporting page, social worker map view, and admin dashboard. Once the design was set, we built the frontend using a modern, responsive UI framework to ensure the platform looks clean and works smoothly on all devices.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing a system that works smoothly for three different users—citizens, social workers, and admins—without making the interface confusing. Integrating location-based features and making the map update issues in real time also took extra effort.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
"We're proud that we were able to turn a simple idea into a working platform that genuinely helps communities. We successfully built a clean and intuitive interface where anyone can report issues in just a few steps. The separate social-worker login and real-time map view were challenging but became one of our strongest features.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned how to design a platform that serves multiple user groups while keeping the experience simple and intuitive. We understood how important good UI/UX is when dealing with real-world problems, especially for users who may not be tech-savvy.
What's next for Lcal Fix
Moving forward, we want to expand Local Fix with even more powerful and community-friendly features. We plan to introduce real-time chat between citizens and social workers, so communication becomes faster and clearer. We also aim to add AI-powered issue categorization and image recognition to automatically detect whether a report is about garbage, potholes, lighting, or safety concerns.
