Inspiration Education is not one-size-fits-all. As both an educator and software engineer, I've seen students struggle because teachers have limited time to provide personalized support. I wanted to build an AI-powered platform that gives every student access to a personal tutor while helping teachers create engaging learning experiences more efficiently. Lbona aims to make high-quality education accessible to everyone, starting in Ethiopia and expanding globally. What it does Lbona is an AI-powered learning platform that personalizes education for both students and teachers. Key features include: AI-powered personalized learning paths Intelligent tutoring and question answering Automatic quiz and assessment generation Instant feedback on student work AI-assisted lesson planning and content creation Student progress tracking and learning analytics Multilingual learning support Interactive learning resources How we built it We built Lbona using modern web technologies and OpenAI's AI models. Our stack includes: Frontend: Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS Backend: Node.js, Express.js Database: PostgreSQL Authentication: Clerk AI: OpenAI API for tutoring, quiz generation, lesson creation, and personalized feedback Deployment: Cloud-based infrastructure The platform combines traditional learning management capabilities with AI agents that assist both students and educators in real time. Challenges we ran into Designing AI prompts that generate accurate educational content. Balancing personalization while keeping AI responses consistent. Creating a user experience that feels intuitive for students and teachers. Integrating AI without increasing complexity or slowing down the application. Ensuring generated educational content remains reliable and age-appropriate. Accomplishments that we're proud of Built an AI-first learning platform focused on real educational needs. Successfully integrated AI for tutoring, lesson creation, and quiz generation. Designed a scalable architecture that can grow into a complete digital learning ecosystem. Created a platform that supports both learners and educators instead of focusing on only one audience. Established a strong vision for improving access to quality education. What we learned This project reinforced that AI is most impactful when it augments teachers rather than replaces them. We also learned the importance of prompt engineering, user-centered design, and building AI features that solve real classroom challenges instead of adding unnecessary complexity. What's next for Lbona EdTech Our roadmap includes: AI voice tutoring and conversational learning Personalized study plans based on student performance AI-generated interactive learning activities Offline support for low-connectivity regions Teacher collaboration and classroom management tools Parent dashboards for monitoring student progress Mobile applications for Android and iOS Expansion into multiple African languages Integration with existing Learning Management Systems (LMS) Our long-term vision is to make Lbona an AI-powered education platform that provides every learner with a personalized educational experience and every educator with an intelligent teaching assistant.
