Inspiration

Problem: While shopping online or offline consumers do not choose to buy eco-friendly products even when they want to shop more sustainably (46–51% of Australians). Eco-friendly products are perceived to be more expensive, are harder to find and buy; and often are not fully trusted because of greenwashing incidents in the sector. Additionally, the eco-friendly products are scattered across different brands and websites and it is often hard to know what is out there. Goal: Provide an easy way to find and compare eco-friendly products across different categories and from different brands. Additionally highlight the long-term money saving or waste reduction opportunities. Branding: I chose the brand name to be “lazy green” to speak to people that are “green” and eco-friendly but are a bit lazy or just don’t have a lot of free time. I also deliberately stayed away from the usual earthy and green color palettes that people usually associate with eco-friendly websites. I wanted the website to feel fun, not preachy, easy and modern to appeal to different types of people.

What it does

The website provides curated content about eco-friendly products across 3 categories: Money savers, Waste Combatters and Easy Switches. Within these categories you can find information on how you can save money, reduce waste and compare products across different brands.

How we built it

I started with the content of the website in google doc and outlined the problem statement and the goal of the project. I then added information about the tone, branding and the list of products and categories that I want to display. I then worked with ChatGPT to get product details for the list of products that I came up with. I also used ChatGPT to help me draw a logo that I already had in mind. After that I moved to Replit and essentially used it as I was a creative director. I had the look and feel in mind and already knew what functionality I wanted the website to have. I purchased the domain and connected the Replit app to it.

Challenges we ran into

There are still some challenges with the content of the website and how to keep it updated and trustworthy. For example the products have prices that might be already outdated. I still need to solve this if I want to enhance the website. It would also be great to track the engagement of the website (hopefully Novus can help).

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m really proud of how my idea came to life and how I acted as a creative mind behind the design and execution. I’ve tested the website with 5 people and so far the feedback has been very positive. However, there are a lot of things to improve and add. But for a proof of concept I think it’s a job well done.

What we learned

Wow I was blown away with AI tools like Replit and how it can help you design and build a prototype! I learned a lot from this experience, things like effective prompting, design options, efficient changes etc. I’m yet to learn AI agents..but it’s a good start! I also learned how to push the code to github and add Novus.AI to my project. Novus AI will be very useful once I actually start getting traffic on my website <3

What's next for Lazy green AU

I’ve received a lot of good feedback and suggestions on what to improve on Lazy green AU. I would like to polish the content and start testing it more widely to see if I will get any traffic. If people find it useful, I would like to contact different brands to establish affiliate deals.
